Why Won’t Linda McMahon Debate Peter Schiff? 07.16.2010

Linda McMahon repeatedly refuses to debate her Republican primary opponent Peter Schiff. Schiff says McMahon “lacks the necessary characteristics to be Connecticut's senator,” and the people of Connecticut have taken note. So why won’t Linda McMahon debate before the August 10 primary?

Maybe she doesn’t want to address the fact that she “tolerated and created an atmosphere in which steroids and performance-enhancing drugs were used by performers, even though those performers were role models for tens of millions of teenage boys” most at risk for abusing steroids.

Or is it because McMahon doesn’t want to talk about the violent, abusive treatment of women and explicit sexual content she marketed to kids?

It could be that McMahon doesn’t want to answer to why, as WWE CEO, she consistently “[put] profits ahead of the well-being of the wrestlers.”

Or is it because she doesn’t have any specifics for where she’d cut spending, just a radio ad promising spending cuts?

Maybe it’s because McMahon doesn’t want to answer why, on her State Board of Education ethics form, she claimed she had a degree in education when it was actually in French, and claimed she had never testified before a government authority when in fact she appeared before a Congressional panel investigating steroid abuse in the WWE just one year before filling out the ethics form.

Linda McMahon owes the people of Connecticut a lot of answers and an honest debate.
